HIGH PreSSure SoDIuM

HPS lamps must only be used in auxiliary equipment which meets ANSI electrical specifications. Should the outer glass envelope break, power must immediately be turned off. The lamp cannot be removed until it has cooled. When removing lamp, avoid contact with the arc-tube support to pre-vent electrical shock.

These lamps must be operated in fixtures designed for use with High Pressure Sodium lamps. The fixture wattage rating must match the wattage indicated on the outer glass bulb. Do not scratch the outer bulb or subject it to pressure as this could cause the outer bulb to crack or shatter. A partial vacuum in the outer bulb may cause glass to fly if the glass is struck. Operating the lamp improperly may result in PERSONAL INJURY, PROPERTY DAMAGE, BURNS AND FIRE.

During operation

1. If the outer glass bulb is broken, shut off power immediately and remove the lamp after it has cooled.

2. Use only auxiliary equipment meeting ANSI standards. Use within voltage limits recommended by ballast manufacturer. A. Operate lamp only within specified limits of operation B. For total supply load refer to ballast manufacturers electrical data. Installing

1. Protect lamp base, socket and wiring against moisture, corrosive atmospheres and excessive heat. 2. Replace the lamp if the outer glass bulb has been scratched, cracked, or damaged in any way.

3. If a lamp bulb support is used, be sure to insulate the support electrically so as to avoid possible decomposition of the lamp glass. 4. Do not use this lamp in a fixture which redirects a substantial portion of the energy toward the arc tube and its immediate vicinity, as this may lead to very early lamp failure. Handling

5. Take care in handling and disposing of lamps. If arc tube is broken, avoid skin contact with any of the contents or fragments. 6. The arc tube of this lamp contains sodium and mercury. Dispose of in accordance with federal, state and local requirements.

During operation

1. The lamp will usually take several minutes to reach its full light output even when restarting immediately after turning it off.

2. If outer bulb breakage should occur, shut off power immediately and remove the lamp carefully. Do not keep broken lamp in the socket as ultraviolet radiation from the arc tube will seriously injure eyes and skin.

This lamp can cause serious skin burn and eye inflammation from short wave ultraviolet radiation if outer envelope of the lamp is broken or punctured. Do not use where people will remain for more than a few minutes unless adequate shielding or other safety precautions are used. Lamps that will automatically extinguish when the outer envelope is broken or punctured are commercially available.

Installing

1. This lamp may be used only with specific ballast matched to the lamp wattage, source voltage and frequency. If the lamp is connected to the source directly, the lamp will fail due to heavy current.

2. Use this lamp only in suitable fixtures. Extremely high base temperature and ambient temperatures can adversely affect lamp performance. 3. As the outer bulb of a standard type lamp is not waterproof, moisture or water may cause lamp breakage. Be sure to use it in a waterproof fixture for applications where water or rain drops will not reach the lamp. 4. Lamp should be screwed into socket firmly, but without excessive pressure.

Handling

5. Lamps are fragile; be sure to handle the lamp with care. Avoid undue shock and do not scratch the lamp surface. 6. Do not remove or insert the lamp when power is on.

7. Lamp surface can get very hot; do not touch the lamp with bare hands while the lamp is operating or just after power is switched off.

This product complies with D.H.S. Rule 21 CFR 1040 30 in effect as of date of manufacture.
